我以为我看到了凶手
I Thought I Was Seeing Murder
15 minutes 51 seconds, Two-channel HD video, color, sound, 2015
I witnessed and filmed two deer wandering into the Gold Coast of Chicago neighborhood on the last day of October 2013. The nature of the event was innocuous, but the impression at the scene appeared to be a very opposite scenario: the presence of news reporters, policemen, onlookers, and searchlights all gave a strong sense that a murder was happening there.
The other story covers the actual murder of one teenager who was killed outside of a McDonald's in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. The same television station (CBS Chicago) reported the news, showing the same journalist who had reported on the deer story. Later I visited the crime scene to film. The images I filmed ironically show two scenes in opposite ways: one seems serious but nothing happened, the other as if nothing happened but was a real tragedy. Here are two different stories edited in the same format: one image imitating another. This “diction of the image” finally presents itself by placing the two different news reports side by side.
